TEN TIPS FOR SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHERS

Choose a shooting position that gives a good background but...

Do not shoot everything from the same position.

Use the fastest lenses you can afford.

Use the slowest film you can but...

Do not be afraid to push film.

Shoot plenty of film.

Pick a wide lens aperture so that you can...

Pick a fast shutter speed.

Two camera bodies are useful - one with a long lens, the other with a shorter one.

Wideangle and standard lenses should not be forgotten.

The above tips are a general guide ONLY. Various circumstances will dictate you adopt different techniques. For example, regarding pushing film, there is some debate as to whether Fujicolour's 800 ISO gives better results than their 1600 ISO film - even when underexposed one stop! Also, you wouldn't use an ultra high shutter speed when panning or trying to introduce deliberate blur.

The bottom line is: have you got a good picture!
