Debut of Gary Pallister for Manchester United (v Norwich City), Old Trafford, Manchester.

This was an evening kick-off game and I had just ten minutes to get a shot of the debutant, before heading back to the Guardians' Manchester offices to develop the film, have a print made and get it wired on a contraption that looked like the original gramophone. He hardly touched the ball in that time but I constantly tracked him and my patience was rewarded with a nice shot. These days photographers sit by the pitch with digital cameras and laptops connected to mobile phones and wire throughout the game. What luxury!
